To Fail Whale or Not to Fail Whale?

Twitter can’t seem to make up its mind whether to serve up the traditional “fail whale” graphic in the event of a system problem:

Would you miss the fail whale if it retired? (I’m not talking about the end of system errors, just the fail whale as a mascot.) It has been working awfully hard. Maybe there’s an old cetacean’s home somewhere in Florida. If you get a moment, take the poll and have your vote heard:

I would definitely miss the Fail Whale! It’s become standard jargon within social media speak.
There’s even a definition of it in Tim O’Reilly’s The Twitter Book. http://oreilly.com/catalog/9780596802820.

I would totally miss the fail whale! I already miss the “Who goes there?” owl! He was so cute. Bring back the owl! Save the whale!
